Several options are available to you for the deployment of Hemera on a single workstation or within a client-server network architecture.

Single station configuration
This is the right configuration when it is used on a computer that is not connected to a network. All the software components required by Hemera must therefore be installed on this computer.

Recommended hardware: 450 MHz Pentium III with 128 MB RAM.

Client-server configuration on client station
This solution is selected when you do not want to install Hemera on an existing server (security factors, compatibility of versions of SQL Server, etc.). The database can therefore be installed on client stations for the service that will act as a server. In these conditions, the client station hosting the database must fulfil the baseline performance conditions required so as not to slow all users down.

N.B.: A major drawback with this solution is that the business components are run by each client. You will therefore see a significant downturn in performance for each user. In this case, the solution is to use Windows NT as the operating system for the station hosting the database.

Recommended hardware:
Server: 500 MHz Pentium III with 128 MB RAM.
Client: Pentium III with 128 MB RAM.

“Dedicated” Windows NT client-server configuration
This option is generally implemented when there are already servers equipped with Microsoft SQL Server or when you want to set up a new data server to deploy Hemera on client stations. The advantage of this configuration is that resource-hungry tasks (business processing operations) are carried out on a dedicated machine designed specifically for these tasks. As such, client stations (Hemera users) are freed up from these operations and can therefore be streamlined.

Recommended hardware:
Server: 500 MHz Pentium III with 256 MB RAM and SCSI hard drive.
Client: Pentium III with 128 MB RAM.

Metaframe client-server configuration
This is implemented when remote stations do not have sufficient resources and when there are performance problems on the network (bandwidth too low). Any type of client station will be able to access Hemera via any type of connection, from anywhere.

Recommended hardware:
Server: 500 MHz Pentium III with 512 MB RAM and 18 GB SCSI hard drive (or higher if Metaframe server integrated).
Metaframe server: depends on number of clients to be managed.
Laptop: 500 MHz Pentium III with 256 MB RAM.

Software components required

Core components

Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 or later: Internet browser

MDAC 2.6 (Microsoft Data Access Components): Microsoft database access components

Server-specific components

(Microsoft Transaction Server) included in Windows NT Option Pack: robust, transaction processing and centralized management of business components.

MSDE 1.0 (Microsoft Data Engine) or Microsoft SQL Server 7 (minimum): SQL server used for database management. MSDE is a free version of SQL Server, limited to 5 network users.

Windows NT-specific components

Service Pack 6: Windows NT 4 update

Service Pack 3: Windows 2000 update

Windows 9x-specific components

DCOM 98 (Distributed Component Object Model): set of components implementing the distributed COM architecture.

Environment
Hemera can be deployed on all Windows environments as of Windows 95.
